Lake Shikotsu is a freshwater lake located in Chitose City, Hokkaido. It belongs to Shikotsu-Toya National Park and is the northernmost antifreeze lake in Japan. It is a caldera lake where water has accumulated in the crater formed by a large volcanic eruption about 44,000 years ago. Lake Shikotsu is the fourth most transparent lake in Japan and the third deepest. Due to the high transparency of the water, underwater tour boats and clear kayaks are popular with tourists. Many people feel free to play with a pedal boat.
