Introduction - The western part of Hakodate, including Hachimanzaka, is an important traditional building preservation area of the country and has been selected as a Hokkaido heritage site. Various Western-style, Japanese-style, and Japanese-Western eclectic buildings from the end of the Meiji era to the beginning of the Showa era, when this area was most prosperous, remain. These form a distinctive townscape in harmony with the slopes from Mt. Hakodate to Hakodate Port and the streets on which trams run. Among them, the view from Hachimanzaka overlooks the harbor and is a typical sightseeing spot in Hakodate. You can also find the other quaint slopes such as Hiyori-zaka, Chacha (grandfather) climbing, Daisanzaka, and Nijumasaka in Hakodate.
